Roy Ellsworth Harris (February 12, 1898 – October 1, 1979) was an Americancomposer. He wrote much music on American subjects, becoming best known for his Symphony No. 3.
MUSIC: Symphony No. 4 , ‘Folksong Symphony’
IMPRESSION: This symphony reminds me of the music of Gustav Holst. The choral movements remind me especially of Holst’s ‘Choral Symphony’ and ‘The Golden Goose’. However in place of Holst’s refinement Harris employs a vibrant jazziness to his interpretations of his chosen ‘folksongs’.
